Daily Devotional: What Fills Your Heart With Joy?

A t-shirt sported, the saying `` whoever dies with the most toys wins''. But the t-shirt next to it said ``they all still die .'' These t-shirts reveal a lot about the modern-day preoccupation with stuff and a cynical approach to life. But surprisingly, the Bible offers wisdom that's countercultural, redemptive and hopeful. We can look to the apostle paul's letter to the Church at Galatia for help. He wrote to them with great concern, for he heard they were turning away from the true God and were embracing a false gospel after outlining how they should approach issues related to the law and the gospel he gave some instructions on how to live as believers in Jesus, Some of his teaching describes the fallacy of seeking our own fulfillment, including through the collection of a lot of stuff, the toys in the slogan.

He said in Galatians 6:8

whoever sows to please their flesh,  from the flesh will reap destruction.  Whoever sows to please the spirit from the spirit will reap eternal life.

So What did that mean? Well, in short, those who look only to their own satisfaction, whether through possessions or status or influence, will end up on a heap of dung. They may appear to be on top of their game, but God knows their heart and eventually their empty lifestyle will be shown up for what it is. But those who sow to please God, will reap eternal life. that is those who plant seeds of forgiveness, grace peace and love will reflect the beauty of Christ. The Holy Spirit will multiply their efforts and god will reward them.
