Daily Devotional: Trust God's Timing | God Has a Bigger Blessing Planned For You!

Waiting is not one of the things humans are used to. No one likes to wait; especially when the results of other people can be seen. Another reason why waiting seems so difficult is because most people do not know what to do during this period. They then begin to feel their life is on hold. In today’s devotional, we will talk on the topic “The other side of waiting; testimony of God’s faithfulness in hard times”

• It’s hard to keep waiting when it seems everyone else is ahead of you. What we fail to remember is that we all have different battles and we are all going two different destinations. A student studying to become a doctor will not have the same curriculum as one studying to become a journalist. Both are important but very different. So when you measure your progress against others, it makes no sense. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:12

“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”

From this verse, we can see that comparing and unnecessary competition with others is a foolish thing to do. It is important we stop looking at others and measuring our progress with theirs. Some will say, I’m not looking at others, I’m looking at myself. I haven’t gotten married yet. I haven’t gotten my degree yet. I have no kids yet. Who told you the plan for your life? By whose standard are you measuring your progress? God alone knows what we ought to do and where we ought to be at every given point in time.

• In life, we all get to a point where we have to wait. And this is especially true when you’re walking with God. God can show you what your life will be. He can show you your beautiful destiny but He will have to build you to become good enough to handle that position He’s taking you too. Your waiting time is your preparation time. It’s the time God uses to take out whatever is not meant to be in your life. Your waiting time is your pruning time. It is not a pleasant time. It’s a very difficult process and can be very overwhelming but like Apostle James said in James 1:2

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds”.

We should be glad not because it’s easy but because we know in the end, it will be full of joy. In John 15:2 Jesus says

“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful”

Though it’s not easy our first reason for being joyous is that we know we have a glorious destiny in Christ. And we are being pruned so we can bear even more fruits. It’s like a woman who is pregnant. She bares all the inconveniences she has to face because of the baby. During labor, she groans in deep pain but when the baby is born, she is ecstatic. The baby is worth all the months of trouble she went through. The baby is worth the wait.

• There are examples of people who waited on God in the bible. One of them is Joseph. Joseph had a dream as a young boy and he believed that dream. He dreamt that his parents and brothers will bow down to him to the annoyance of his elder brothers and the amazement of his father. Joseph was treated unfairly and one day was sold by his brothers to Egypt. Joseph wasn’t deterred. He continued to trust God even through unfavorable conditions. Joseph had a boss, Potiphar, who trusted him but soon, Potiphar’s wife wanted to sleep with Joseph but he refused. Who knows how long she must have asked him before she finally decided to frame him up most likely out of anger. She lied that Joseph tried to rape her and he was thrown into prison. This should have made joseph angry with God. He could have said “oh God, after everything I did for you including standing my ground against fornication, yet you still let them throw me in prison” he never made such a statement. He continued to believe and wait on God’s promise to him. He continued to interpret dreams. And finally, God will use his gift to interpret dreams to take him from the prison to the palace. In just a few minutes, Joseph was made prime minister of a foreign land. Though Joseph faced troubles on every side, he continued to wait on God and as usual, God didn’t fail Him.
