Daily Devotional: Sins Are Like Weeds | Galatians 5:19 |

For much of the country when winter ends, yellow dandelion weeds start to pop up everywhere in newly rejuvenated early springtime grass, the bright, yellow flowers is often easy to spot because of how they contrast green landscape. But as any lawn-conscious homeowner could tell you they is quite difficult to fight against and eliminate. And just as these specific weeds can infest a lawn certain sins can infest the human heart as well. Galatians 5:19 says

now the works of flesh are evident, sexual immorality, impurity and sensuality

Paul the author of galatians is saying that sexual sin is the kind of sin that is easy to spot, but difficult to fight against and eliminate.

When someone is in the snare of sexual immorality, impurity or sensuality, that person doesn't need to guess at what the problem might be that's darkening their heart. It's easy to spot and while seeing might be the first step toward eliminating, there's, often a tough battle in the process of moving towards purity, because sexual sin is powerful and celebrated in culture today.

Biblical definitions of sexual purity are often scoffed at by secular culture, meaning the attack is now advancing from within our hearts and from outside of our hearts in society. Immorality has flanked the human heart and the fight rages on, but we need not battle in vain Romans. 7:24-25 says

24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from [a]the body of this death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.

Jesus and his power over sin and death are our only hope in the battle against sexual immorality.
