Daily Devotional: Proverbs 12:4 “A Virtuous Woman is a Crown…” (Part 6)

“Oh don’t forget the rubies, the rarest of all gems. Is your crown radiating with rubies of reverence and respect for your husband? Is your crown ornamented with opals of openness, obedience, overflowing love and the oil of joy?”

– NANCY CAMPBELL

Proverbs 12:4: “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.”

Gill’s Exposition of the Entire Bible on Proverbs 12:4: “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband,…. One that is loving and chaste, constant and faithful, obsequious and submissive to him; that is diligent in the affairs of her house, takes care of her family, brings up her children, and keeps up a good order and decorum among her servants, is an honour and credit to her husband.”

The Lord has blessed our family with five daughters and our middle daughter loves fixing her hair in different styles. She would go online and look up different hairstyles. Anyway, one of her favorite hairstyles is the crown. She showed it to me one day and after a couple tries we had it down pat. She wears her crown with pride.

A husband should be able to wear (to show off) his crown (his wife) with pride. His crown is a virtuous wife. But sadly, that is oftentimes not the case. He should be able to and should want to show off his wife; that is, take her out to dinner, take her places with him, have her represent him in his absence, talk highly of her, and he does these things eagerly.

A crown is very precious and usually has a high price placed upon it. It is oftentimes studded with diamonds and other precious jewels. The owner of the crown keeps it shiny and looking new by polishing it daily. Likewise, a husband who cherishes his crown (his wife) will keep her looking shiny and decorated by taking care of her. He will see that she gets the rest she needs, that she eats healthy, that she wears beautiful clothes; he will help her with the children; he will instill within her the Word of God as he wants her to become more like Christ. Yes, the husband who has a virtuous wife will honor and cherish her as he would a crown. Don’t you want to be that kind of wife? I know I do.

Let’s strive to be our husband’s crown by living virtuously.
