Daily Devotional: Hearing the Voice of God

What does the voice of God sound like in your head? A mentor asked me that question during a confusing and frustrating season in my life, where I felt like I was losing grip on my identity. When you hear what you think is god's voice in your head, is it overly critical? Is it constantly correcting you and pointing out the areas that you need major growth in? Does it sound like a scolding parent, you disappointed? Does it remind you of that bully who constantly put you down? The bible is constantly trying to remind us of how God truly sees us and what he really thinks of us as his children through christ, in jude 1:2, God tells us his intention is that mercy, peace and love be multiplied to us? God's heart is to show us mercy. his joy is to provide peace beyond all understanding and his character is to love us infinitely and immeasurably more than we can fathom.

So that voice in your head, reminding you that you failed the ungracious one affirming all of your negative thoughts. You already have about yourself, the one bullying you into thinking that you're never going to amount to anything that you're unworthy of love from anyone. The one convincing you that you won't ever be forgiven. Those are lies, that's not the voice of God. The voice of God is the voice of a father who loves his children, extending grace and encouragement to them in even their thoughts. His voice is one that builds us up instead of tearing us down.

It breathes life into our hopeless ways of thinking. So what does the voice of god sound like in your head? If it's not full of mercy, peace and love, there's a good chance. it's not God.
