Daily Devotional: God Never Takes a Vacation!

by Tonja Taylor

Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]--Hebrews 13:5, AMPC

The LORD never goes on vacation, thank goodness! Even while we sleep, He watches over us; "24/7" He is guarding us, thinking about us, planning good things for us, His precious kids!

As loving parents, we are interested in every part of our children's lives, and monitor them carefully. Still, we have to sleep some time!

Technically, sleep could be considered a "mini vacation." Think about it.

Also, for some reason, even some Christians think they can "take a vacation" from God and not lose, but that is not so!

The walk of the true Believer in Christ Jesus must be daily. Just like we eat daily, sleep daily, brush our teeth daily, bathe daily, we need the Word of God put into our spirits and souls daily!

We cannot afford to "take a vacation" from God! Praise Him, in His faithfulness, He never takes a vacation from us! No matter how we feel, once we truly accept Jesus into our hearts as LORD and Savior, He never leaves us nor forsakes us! He is with us forever!

HALLELUJAH!

It occurred to me a few years ago that, when we sleep, we trust God totally--or we'd never sleep (till we got too exhausted to stay awake)!

So let us rejoice and rest in the faithfulness of God our Father, for from the moment we make Jesus Christ, His Son, our Savior and LORD, we become heirs in the Royal Family, and Elohim--the Creator, Sustainer, and LORD of Heaven and earth and every living thing--becomes our dear darling doting Daddy God (Abba Father), Who delights in us because we love and revere and worship Him

Through Jesus, when we ask the LORD to forgive us of our sins and ask Christ to come into our hearts and be our Savior and LORD, we have a blood Covenant--and eternal, legal agreement!--that provides everything we need and so much more! Hallelujah!

The Bible is our Covenant book from and with the eternal God. Hallelujah!

We can trust every word of it, which is all the more important in this world that is constantly changing, and not nearly enough people know who they are--or even what they are! UGH!

The Spirit of God, however, is stirring up us His Covenant people to know our identity in Christ and to walk in it, so we can help others see and follow the true Light!

Hallelujah!

Psalm 89 is one of my favorite chapters in the Old Testament that talks about the Covenant--and this was by an Old Testament person, who hadn't even been born again yet, because Jesus hadn't come to earth to live and die on the cross for us, and be raised again to eternal life after three days! But every word of the Old and New Testaments are forever true, Hallelujah!

This Psalm is long and focused on King David, but the promise is that God's Seed--JESUS--would come through the line of David. And so He did!

I have listed the verses that speak to me, to share with you. At the end, the Psalm talks as if God has done him wrong and forsaken him, but that is not true. What happens is, people break God's laws (then and now!), and get out from under the covering of God's faithfulness and mercy (Psalm 91, among others!), and that opens the door to the enemy.

God is good and all good! He is forever good and faithful and true, and only wants the best for us! If He didn't want to rescue us from sin and evil, trouble and trial, He would not have sent Jesus!

These promises in Psalm 89 (and almost all the Bible, although some are specifically for the Jewish people in ancient times) are for us, Covenant heirs, as much as they were to David! God is no respecter of persons. He rewards faith, no matter whom it comes through, HALLELUJAH! Great is His faithfulness, amen!

Psalm 89, A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem, of Ethan the Ezrahite.

1 I will sing of the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord forever; with my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness from generation to generation.

2 For I have said, Mercy and loving-kindness shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness will You establish in the very heavens [unchangeable and perpetual].

3 [You have said] I have made a covenant with My chosen one, I have sworn to David My servant,

4 Your Seed I will establish forever, and I will build up your throne for all generations. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

5 Let heaven (the angels) praise Your wonders, O Lord, Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones (the holy angels).

6 For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who among the mighty [heavenly beings] can be likened to the Lord,

7 A God greatly feared and revered in the council of the holy (angelic) ones, and to be feared and worshipfully revered above all those who are round about Him?

8 O Lord God of hosts, who is a mighty one like unto You, O Lord? And Your faithfulness is round about You [an essential part of You at all times].

11 The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all that is in it, You have founded them.

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and loving-kindness and truth go before Your face.

15 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are the people who know the joyful sound [who understand and appreciate the spiritual blessings symbolized by the feasts]; they walk, O Lord, in the light and favor of Your countenance!

16 In Your name they rejoice all the day, and in Your righteousness they are exalted.

24 My faithfulness and My mercy and loving-kindness shall be with him, and in My name shall his horn be exalted [great power and prosperity shall be conferred upon him].

26 He shall cry to Me, You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation!

28 My mercy and loving-kindness will I keep for him forevermore, and My covenant shall stand fast and be faithful with him.

29 His Offspring also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

34 My covenant will I not break or profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.

52 Blessed be the Lord forevermore! Amen and Amen.

If you will start thanking and praising God for His faithfulness to you, you will soon understand (receive revelation) of just how very good and faithful and merciful He has been to you--alllllllllllll the days of your life! And He will not change! His faithfulness continues forever!

YOU CAN TRUST HIM to never take a vacation--to never forsake you! So don't forsake Him!

Our relationship with the living God Who is Love is a two-way street! Draw near to Him and love on Him, and you will experience His deeper Love and Presence like never before!
