Daily Devotional: God didn't tell ME that

by Shandha Woodard

A little later, I went to see Shemaiah, who was shut up inside his house.  Shemaiah: It is not safe here.  Let us leave and go into God’s house inside the temple and shut the doors.  People are coming to kill you.  They will come at night.  Nehemiah: Why would a man in my position run for his life? Why would a person like me use the temple to save his life when such contact with God would surely kill me?  I refuse to go into the temple under such circumstances.  While I was speaking these words, I realized God had not sent him to me.  God would never tell me to break His laws.  Shemaiah’s prophecy was “inspired” by the money of Tobiah and Sanballat.  After hearing his message, they thought I would be scared and thus vulnerable to sin.  They hoped to use such a lapse in behavior to discredit me-Nehemiah 6:10-13 VOICE.

A few years back, when I was trying to get a retail business off the ground, a former co-worker told me that God had spoken to her about a particular product that I was supposed to incorporate into my business.  Her exact words were, “God spoke this to me.”  The product that she suggested was something that I’d never thought about nor had any desire to pursue.  When she said that God spoke this to me, I quickly responded by saying God wouldn’t tell you something about me that He hasn’t already told me first (shout out to my main man Joel Osteen for that one).  Let me be clear I’m not saying in any way that God didn’t speak that to her, but I know for a fact that He didn’t tell me that.

In Amos 3:7, the Bible says when the Lord decides to do something, He will first tell His servants.  I believe wholeheartedly that when we’re in close and constant communication with God, our Father that He will certainly reveal to us whatever it is that we need to know, rather it be correction or confirmation.  I hope you didn’t miss that the key to hearing from God in any capacity lies in your relationship with Him.  When we’re in perpetual contact with the Lord, there’s no way that we’ll ever miss a notification from Him (#I’m just saying). God is in the business of taking of His children, so we can rest assured that no good thing will He ever withhold from us (Psalm 84:11).

Thus says the Lord….my sheep respond as they hear My voice for, I know them intimately and they know me.
