Daily Devotional For Women: Stay Rooted In God | Jeremiah 17

Today we're gonna meditate on a passage from the Book of Jeremiah 17:7 & 8.

But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Another word for anchored is rooted, and I love what these verses say about being rooted. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. I've learned a little bit about gardening recently. When you first plant a vine or a bush, you don't actually want to water the roots directly, but you want to water in a circle all the way around the plant so that the roots Have to stretch out to get that water. It actually causes the plant to be stronger because the root system grows bigger and wider. So when strong winds come, it won't knock the plant out of the ground and it also can't be pulled out of the ground easily.

That is what's happening in this verse. This tree is planted next to a stream to get its water supply. The tree has to send out its roots all the way out to the stream, so the tree becomes strong. In fact, it doesn't even die in a drought and it continues to produce fruit that would be very applicable to people who lived in the Middle East during this time when this was written, they were in a water, poor area, so they would completely understand what a Drought looked like and to them honestly, it would look, it would be a lot more impactful than it would be for us, because we have so many resources at our disposal. They depended on water.

As believers, we have to make sure that our root systems are anchored and strong. We have to have a solid foundation. We have to send our roots out deep into the living water of Jesus Christ, because we will face drought. We will face hardships, we will face trials. We don't want to be that tree that dies in the drought or fails to produce fruit for the Lord.

So how do we make our roots grow strong? Through prayer; through worship; through community; through Bible study.  those four things create solid legs to a table. If one of those is missing, just one, the table is wobbly and not strong. If more than one is missing. The table literally can't stand, take an inventory today of where you stand with the Lord, in prayer, in worship, in community and in Bible study.

If you need to strengthen one of those legs to make your roots grow, strong, deep and wide, don't delay start today. Ask God for help and my friend he will equip you here's our main point today. Those who are anchored in Christ are deeply rooted by streams of living water and you have full access. God bless you today.
