Daily Devotional For Motivation: Can You Leave Your Comfort Zone?

by Olawale Ogunsola

Genesis 12:1-3
"[1]The lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.
[2]I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.
[3]I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
One desire of any serious mind is comfort and comfortability. It is not a thing desired but a thing that is prayed for and proud of.

However, comfort is in different categories and levels. To achieve a higher level of comfort calls for your ability to leave a smaller or lower level of comfort to pursue a higher level of comfort and comfortability. On the plain land is a form of comfort but the one on the mountain is different and better. The view of someone on the plain land cannot be compared with that of the fellow on the mountain. The breeze is aslo different but it requires some discomfort and pain to reach the top of the mountain.

Father Abraham is a practical example for anyone who wants to achieve greatness in life especially according to the will of God. He acted according to the instructions of God to attain a better result in life. He was about to lay a new and better foundation for himself, children and generations after him. What were the things he forgone? According to God's instructions, he chose to leave:
1. Native country
2. Relatives.
3. Father's family.
He left all these to begin a journey to a place not mentioned. A journey to an unknown place. He left what was sure for what was "not sure". It is leaving certainty for "uncertainty". Yet, he was confident of the instructions and the Instructor.

He wanted a better relationship with God who created Heaven and Earth. He purposed to key in into another lifestyle never experienced by anyone anywhere. He made himself available for a more comfortable life. It is on record in Genesis 13: "[2](Abram was very rich in livestock, silver, and gold.)" New Living Translation NLT.
Not only that, Scriptures disclose, "[1]Abraham was now a very old man, and the lord had blessed him in every way." Genesis 24. NLT

No record of such thing was made for him when he was in his own country, among his native country, relatives and father's family. If he had failed to heed the Lord's instructions, he would have lost new benefits, privileges and comfort.

Finally, he became " the FATHER OF FAITH" Do you want a better benefits, privileges and comfort in life? Be prepared to leave your comfort zone. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
