What have you lost that resulted in something better coming along? I can think of a few ``losses'' that ended up being replaced by something better. A high school boyfriend replaced by the man that I would eventually marry. A child going off to marry and then returning with a precious spouse and then grandchildren. It can be hard to hold loosely to good things and to trust god when those good things go away. In john 16:7 Jesus is preparing his disciples for his return to Heaven. He says
``but very truly I tell you, it is for your own good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the advocate will not come to you. But if i go, i will send him to you .''
I can imagine how hard this was to hear.
The disciples had grown accustomed to Jjesus' presence in their lives and they were counting on the change that he would bring in their world. Go awa? Leave them alone? I can imagine how they doubted like you, and I might that it was better for them to have jesus leave, but then jesus promised another an advocate or a helper, who would come along their side and guide them, one who wouldn't come until and unless Jesus left.
The stunner here is that Jesus says his leaving and the coming of the Holy Spirit will be for their good for our good. Sometimes we have to lose what we love in order to gain something better. God's work in our lives, whether in losing or gaining, is always for our good because he loves us and he does what's best for us.
