Daily Devotional: Choose to Ignore Them

Sometimes people or things are in plain sight; we see but choose to ignore them.

As a child, adolescent and teen, I lived in a two-story house along with my parents and siblings. Mom and Dad slept in a downstairs bedroom and our rooms were upstairs. With a family of 5 children, laundry was a routine chore for our mother.

Mom had reason to complain. She washed, dried and folded our clean clothes. Finished, she stacked them on bottom steps of the stairway to be carried up by us to our rooms.

Our Mom expected of us to pick them up on our way upstairs and put them inside our dresser drawers. I confess. We saw them but rushed past. The number of piles quickly multiplied; they were in plain sight but we chose to ignore and avoid them.

Jesus didn’t avoid people; He had compassion.

“And Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.’ And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ And the blind man said to him, ‘Rabbi, let me recover my sight.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way; your faith has made you well.’ And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way (Mark 10:49-52 ESV).”

The Lord didn’t pass him by.
