Daily Devotional: Confession Brings Victory!

Remember sitcom ‘Family Matters’ character Steve Urkle?

How could we forget?

Trouble was his middle name.

‘Did I do that?’

Most of us have asked ourselves that same question.

We don’t want to sin; yet, we are prone to repeat the same sins over and over.

Grumbling is my besetting sin. I might not complain out loud but discontent is in my mind.

‘Did I do that?’

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1 KJV).”

We must remain in the race.

Victory over sin is our goal.

Remember Apostle Paul?

‘Did I do that?’

“For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me (Romans 7:15-20 KJV).”

Confession brings victory!

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9 KJV).”
