Daily Devotional: GOD IS PRESENT WHEN YOU ARE IN PAIN

Humans are created in the very image and likeness of God. So, we share a lot of characteristics with God. One of the characteristics that separates God from us is, omnipresence. God being everywhere every time. Unlike us, He is not limited in movement. So God is able to help all His children at the same time whenever they’re in pain. Our topic is ‘God is present when you are in pain’. I pray that the eyes of your understanding become enlightened as you open your ears to listen to what He has to say to you in this post.

• In this world, there will be moments of pain. Moments where we are so downcast and filled with so much heaviness because of what we are going through. There are a lot of pains people go through daily. They’re a lot of pains people go through per season. People go through the pain of rejection, childlessness, feeling unloved, sicknesses, financial turmoil, loss of relationships and a lot more. Pain is difficult. It is the reason why many people become depressed. It is the reason why many people commit suicide. Pain can bring the absolute worst in people. People dread pain and do their best to avoid it like a plague. Unfortunately, pain will still come. Sometimes, you can be doing your best and be at your best yet, things don’t work at planned. Jim Rohn will say ‘life is like the changing season’. There is summer, there is winter, there is fall and there is spring. It is same for our life. We have to accept the fact that no matter what, these times will come.

• Most of us are in deep pain because we have not encountered the ministry of The Holy Spirit. When Jesus was about leaving the earth, He was talking to His disciples. He told them in John 14 vs 16 ‘And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;’ The Holy Spirit has many names based on His function but the two principal names Jesus referred to Him as in John 14 – 16 is The Spirit of Truth and The Comforter. Many do not realise that it is not that the Holy Spirit just likes to comfort but it is His nature to comfort. It’s just like trying to think chairs like people sitting on them, no. A chair was made to allow people sit on it. The Holy Spirit who is also God comforts. You don’t have to go through life alone. You have a Comforter who is able to relieve you. Hebrews 4 vs 15 says ‘For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.’ Jesus walked on earth too. He understands what we go through. He was accused falsely like some of us, He went through shame. He was betrayed by one who was very close to Him. So He knows and because He knows, when He was leaving earth, He told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the gift of the person of the Holy Spirit. Benny Hinn will describe the Holy Spirit as Jesus unlimited. And that’s a great definition because Jesus when He was on earth was only in Israel. He wasn’t in Africa or Asia or America or Europe or anywhere else. But now the Holy Spirit has been poured out into our hearts. Peter after receiving the Holy Spirit with other disciples spoke to the men who were present. The men who wondered what was going on because of the mighty manifestation of the Holy Spirit. He said something important in Acts 2 vs 38 – 39 which says ‘Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”’ For people who think the Holy Spirit was for just the disciples should take note of what Peter said.
