If you're like me, you may have believed the lie of what culture tells us that, in order to be happy, feel important experience wholeness. We must have a significant other that, in order for us to remedy the feeling of loneliness, we must be in a relationship for many of us. Myself certainly included whether single or in a relationship days like today, Valentine's Day, can make those things particularly painful to navigate. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely holiday, but it's also jam-packed with the lies. Our culture tends to believe when it comes to significance.
Scripture says, in John 10:10
the thief comes only to steal, and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.
The thief, as in my sin, the world, the Devil, wants us to believe what our culture says be in a relationship and you'll experience completeness. But here's the thing. If we start to believe that, then a quiet divide will happen both between a relationship with a person and our relationship with God. Another person can not complete us. Only God can do that.
And God desires that invitation to recover our lives with what was stolen. He wants to make our life more full and alive out of his own way. God's culture tells us the truth that jesus came to bring us life in him. we have everything we need. everything else is just icing on the cake.
