"We have made an arrangement to produce six seasons of 'House of Cards'," Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said at a UBS media conference.

"It will be an eight-episode season. It will start production in early 2018 and it will not involve Kevin Spacey."

She has co-starred with Spacey as his character Frank Underwood’s wife Claire in the last five seasons of the hit show.

Following allegations against Spacey, the streaming company suspended production of the upcoming sixth and final season of the show, in which Spacey plays a corrupt U.S. president, and said the series would be cancelled.

But it appears to have had a rethink after Spacey apologised to actor Anthony Rapp, who had accused him of trying to seduce him in 1986 when Rapp was 14.

The star tweeted that he was "beyond horrified to hear [Rapp's] story", adding: "I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago.

"But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years."

Sources had previously claimed that season 6 was "almost entirely written" before Rapp came forward. It is now expected to be re-focused around Wright's character.
