Kevin Garnett is still hooping with the Brooklyn Nets, but when the 38-year-old is ready to retire, he reportedly wants to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears.

Garnett told Spears he’d love the opportunity to put together an ownership group that would buy the team he once played for.

Minnesota’s current owner, Glen Taylor, told the Associated Press in 2012 that he was open to bringing on a minority owner who would learn how to run the team before eventually buying Taylor’s majority share out. The problem then was that Taylor was having trouble finding suitable candidates. He preferred that the Timberwolves were bought by a native Minnesotan and seemed determined to keep the franchise in the state.

Eventually, Taylor pulled the team off the market. He’s continued to invest in it, and according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, is putting $44 million into a $97 million renovation project for the Timberwolves’ home, the Target Center.

With Garnett’s imprint already on the franchise as a player, he would presumably be a fine candidate as the T-Wolves’ owner. He told Spears that he still has important ties to the franchise and a relationship with his former coach, Flip Saunders, who is again the coach and also the president of basketball operations.
