Democrats are excited over the possibility of former Vice President Joe Biden considering Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams as his presidential running mate.

According to the Washington Times, Biden and Abrams met privately in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. The meeting sparked anticipation that the two might run on the same ticket.

Biden, 76, who served two terms as former President Barack Obama's closest adviser, has yet to decide if he will join an already crowded field of hopefuls vying for the Democratic nomination.

If Biden does run, he is expected to jump to the head of the pack that includes California Senator Kamala Harris and Texas politician Robert "Beto" O'Rourke.

A person close to Abrams confirmed the meeting, saying it was arranged at Biden's request.

The 2018 Georgia gubernatorial runner-up suggested she might run for president in a tweet following an interview at the South by Southwest Stage conference in Austin, Texas.

"20 years ago, I never thought I'd be ready to run for POTUS before 2028. But life comes at you fast - as I shared in Q&A w @Yamiche at @sxsw. Now 2020 is definitely on the table."

Abrams said she is a better choice to run the country than President Trump.

"I think he's racist, I think he's xenophobic, I think he's homophobic. I think he has disdain for anything that he considers different than the norm," Abrams said. She also said Trump was a "bully" but she doubted the Democrats will defeat him by using his own tactics against him.

"I think beating Donald Trump is the wrong mission. When you're focused on your enemy then you are ignoring your allies."
