Daily Devotional: Job Well Done

Daily Devotional: Job Well Done

by PamFord Davis

My best friend’s dad, Leo Ennis owned and operated a service station in our small neighborhood. He put in long hours. Personal service included pumping gas, washing car windows, checking air in the tires and coolant to keep vehicles on the road.

Cars break down; Mr. Ennis took care of that too. Mechanics get grease on their hands and dirt under their nails. That’s okay; real men get their hands dirty. It’s proof of a good day’s work. He removed dirt with Lava soap in the gas station restroom.

My husband Norm’s main career has been in broadcasting. I didn’t realize he was a jack of all trades until after we married. He has worked on many of our vehicles, done wiring and plumbing in our homes and even put in a septic tank at one location.

Farming, Norm has planted many gourds and vegetable gardens.

My man has gotten his hands dirty.

Looking back to man’s beginning…

Adam was a man of the land.

“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and tend it (Genesis 2:15 NASB).”

I don’t how Adam carried out his assignment. I believe he found fulfillment in a job well done. Did Adam get his hands dirty? His Father knows.

Some men work in offices or at home on their computers; they might not get their hands dirty. No need to feel guilty… They can clean the toilets!
