Things Every Teenage Girl Should Know

1. Marriage and motherhood are not the ultimate highest calling (nor are they unimportant).

Marriage and motherhood are two impactful, beautiful, sacred callings, but so is singleness. Never think you have to live your life in one particular way to bring glory to God as a woman. Being an image bearer of God and an ambassador of Christ is your ultimate highest calling; and that is something you can live out fully whether you are single or married, childless or a mother, young or old.

Throughout the Word we see a multitude of different kinds of women all doing different things, but all bringing glory to God and furthering the kingdom – wives, moms, single women, deaconesses, prophetesses, judges, queens, homemakers, gardeners, real estate workers, home business owners, cooks, teachers, midwives, nurses, seamstresses, and the list goes on and on.

2. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by an amazing creator, Yahweh.

Our God makes no mistakes, and He certainly made no mistakes when He designed you. You are beautiful, important, and dearly beloved by God. Never forget that truth found in Psalm 139:13-14 (memorize it, if you need to!): “For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.”

3. You can (and should) turn to God for direction for your upcoming life choices.

You have so many choices ahead of you: what to do after high school, what college to maybe go to or which job to take, who to date, where to live, and so on. You can and should glean wisdom from others, but ultimately following after the admonitions of others is not an infallible source of wisdom. Only listening to and following God is. James 1:5 promises us that if we ask for wisdom, God will gladly give it. Take Him up on that offer!

4. Waiting for your future husband is not a waste.

You will have so many voices coming at you about what you should do with your boyfriend, how you’re missing out if you’re still a virgin, how you need to “test drive the car” before you ever think about marrying him, etc. Don’t believe those lies; they are from the enemy. God designed sex, and if He brings you and your future spouse together, you can rest assured that you will be compatible in the intimacy department. You will learn, grow, and discover together, and that is a beautiful thing! Never ever feel like saving your sexuality for your future husband is a waste. I can promise you it isn’t!
