Boston forward Marcus Morris not only wanted the challenge of guarding Cleveland superstar LeBron James, he also said just one player could defend James better than him.

Bold statement.

Morris backed it up.

Starting for the first time in the playoffs for the Celtics, Morris – with help from his teammates – held James to 15 points on 5-for-16 shooting, limiting James to fewer than 22 points for the first time in this season’s playoffs. James also had seven of his team’s nine turnovers. Read More Here

“All women are mothers,” someone recently posted on Twitter, a statement that struck me immediately as well-meaning but misguided.

All women are not mothers, just as certainly as all men are not fathers. And I say this as a childless woman who occasionally finds Mother’s Day uncomfortable since I very much wanted to have children.

Yes, I understand the idea uses the term “mother” metaphorically, in the general sense of someone who is nurturing and creative. But I think that’s a problem, for at least two reasons.

First, saying that all women are mothers minimizes the significance of, well, actual mothers. After three years of writing, developing, and preparing new music, Sareem Poems and Ess Be are back with Mind Over Matter. Releasing via Illect Recordings, Mind is the second full length project from the Lansing, Michigan-based MC and producer duo. Their first album on Illect, 2015's Beautiful Noise, was a highly motivational record based around positivity and perseverance. Mind Over Matter is definitely in the same vein as Noise, but it's clear that as they worked on the new project, Poems and Ess Be weren't afraid to dive deeper into who they've become as artists.

Jackie Hill Perry - 'Crescendo'

crescendo.jpg
It's no surprise Jackie Hill Perry's latest album, Crescendo, speaks volumes about the Christian life. Her songs tackle important issues within the church, firing off passionate, fast-paced verses one minute and pausing for introspection the next. Crescendo's relentless and unrestrained honesty and passion make this collection a necessity for listeners.

"Lamentations" kicks off the album with a reflective track. Jackie all but immediately launches into lyrics as low, steady, bass-emphasized beats lay the foundation for the song. This is no gentle stroll down memory lane - this is a fast-paced, merciless self-review where Jackie details her struggles. Every crescendo starts off low and the song only amplifies this theme. "I'm scared of me, God - terror defined," Jackie fires away, "I need the Shepard, the staff, the valley, the shadow to pass me."
