Second installment in hip-hop’s truest mixtape series is ‘a party in a box’

Syntax Records does it again. Last November, the San Diego-based hip-hop label dropped The Wages of Syntax Volume 2, a compilation bringing fans the best of its roster. Spun by DJ Promote, Wages mixes several of Syntax Records’ hottest songs featuring over 15 artists.

This album was produced with hip-hop lovers in mind. DJ Promote remixes 60 minutes worth of street-worthy beats and rhymes. “There’s never been a mixtape like this in our market…  It’s a party in a box,” says Syntax Records President Tim Trudeau, who goes by the moniker “sirROCDOMZ” when producing. “I believe that this second round of  Wages nailed the heart of a mixtape. Anyone who listens through entirely will walk away impressed.”

RedCloud has satisfied with his sophomore release in ‘Traveling Circus.’ Featuring guest spots from Braille of Lightheaded, Kaitlyn Cassels of Sackcloth Fashion and Sherwin Gardner, among others. The LP is produced almost entirely by Syntax head man Rocdomz.

The LP begins with the title track, in which RedCloud drops three random verses in company with a hook saying nothing courtesy of Sam Hart. It’s an impressionable track, but for the leadoff cut, it felt out of place. Sackcloth Fashion’s Kaitlyn Cassels lends her vocal talents on “My Way,” featuring acoustic strings and piano harmonies over life stories and convictions from the emcee, making a memorable cut. Rocdomz brings his trademark synth sounds on “Don’t Wear It Out,” accompanied by thick piano chords and a smooth bassline RedCloud begs the question… “who’s the illest of the illest that you feelin’ now?… RedCloud homie, that’s my name don’t wear it out.” Sherwin Gardner and Christafari lend a hand on “Neva Letcha Go.”

With season 5 of Empire wrapped, FOX showrunners have announced the show will not return after season 6, which will be 20 episodes. The announcement comes on the heels of news Lee Daniels’ other FOX production Star has also been cancelled.

“We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing,” Charlie Collier, FOX executive, said about Empire‘s last season, Deadline reports. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.”

The final season won’t feature Jussie Smollett. “There’s an option to have Jussie in the

I spent 10 days with my first foldable phone not too long ago, and I can’t stop thinking about it. The new category has me hooked, as it seeks to expand the possibilities of mobile computing. Now Lenovo is jumping on board with a foldable laptop prototype in its ThinkPad X1 family. If I wasn’t already convinced that foldables are the future, I would be now.

Keep in mind this is just a prototype product. There’s still a lot we don’t know, including specifications or even the official, final name. Lenovo says it’s been developing this prototype for the past three years, and it will launch in 2020.
