Intro  “Trying to figure out what the future means/then I had a real encounter with the future me.” An upbeat tempo on some keys and a flute sample lay a nice bed for Ruslan to flow on. He seems like he’s pondering life, and it all seems to be just a stream of consciousness. There’s a continuous flow to it, which sets this song up to be a nice intro.

Future Me  “Felt so low but when I talk to the future me I listen.” The beginning of this song is subdued, and the keys in the back are matching the pulse of his opening hook. Once Ruslan begins to flow, he’s got a hushed tone to his voice, and the drums are layering in. When the beat finally is in full force, so is Ruslan with some pretty technical rhyme schemes. This is some diaphragm rapping here, he’s really digging in. The next verse he couples the hushed voice with the faster rapping. It’s pretty dope.

If you were hoping to go see the new live-action Disney adaptation of the popular film, “Aladdin”, chances are you are going to want to see it all the more now! Naomi Scott, who portrays Jasmine in the film, shared in a blog post recently that her Christian faith is a huge part of all that she does in the entertainment industry.

“My husband and I were actually talking about this yesterday. Sometimes we get asked the question, ‘How do you juggle your faith and what you do?’ But for me, I don’t know how I would do life without my faith. That peace that you know you’re loved and valued is something that keeps me incredibly grounded, incredibly focused. Quite honestly, I don’t see it as this separate thing, this add on thing. My faith is just a part of who I am and what I do.”

In 2001, eight emcees got together in Philadelphia to form a crew called Redeemed Thought. Over the next six years, the crew dwindled down to only two guys: Stephen the Levite and muzeONE. Both of the emcees started making music on their own; the latter of the two found his way into a record contract with illect Recordings in 2009. muzeONE was also involved in the hip hop crew Scribbling Idiots.

THINGS we found along the way

For the last six seasons, people have known actress Crystal Fox for her work as the religious mother, Hanna Young, on OWN’s The Haves and the Have Nots. This Sunday though, we will get to see her take on the motherly role in a whole new way and on a whole new network.

The 53-year-old actress, whose career dates back to her TV debut in The Heat of the Night (and who also happens to be the niece of the late Nina Simone), will appear on the highly anticipated second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies.

Fox will portray Elizabeth Howard, the mother of Zoe Kravitz‘s character Bonnie, who is grappling with her role in the death of the abusive Perry Wright (played by Alexander Skarsgård). As a viewer of the series just like the rest of us, to say Fox is excited to actually be a part of it for Season 2 is an understatement.

Remembering Preacher and Underground Railroad Conductor Josiah Henson, the Inspiration Behind ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’

“Mr. Josiah Henson, a fugitive slave & the original of Mrs. B. Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin. He is now in his 88th year, & his sufferings, energy, patient endurance, & his anxiety for the good of his suffering brethren, are admirable… this most remarkable old man… who was during 41 years a slave, enduring great sufferings & cruelty & endowed with wonderful courage, energy & patience. He said he had had a very suffering tried life, but had, thanks to me, been able to reach a free country & live there.” —Queen Victoria’s diary, March 1877Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 1852 novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin was a smashing success. The gripping exposé of slavery sold 3,000 copies on its first day in print, and Frederick Douglass reported that 5,000 copies—the entire first print run—were purchased within four days. Within six weeks, The Boston Morning Post declared…See More
