The church

What is the church? Who is the church? The Bible speaks about the church so here are some verses describing what the church is and who the church is. The Greek word ekklesia is (a) to the whole company of the redeemed throughout the present era, the company of which Christ said, "I will build My Church," Matt. 16:18, and which is further described as "the Church which is His Body," Eph. 1:22; 5:23, (b) in the singular number (e.g., Matt. 18:17, RV marg., "congregation"), to a company consisting of professed believers, e.g., Acts 20:28; 1 Cor. 1:2; Gal. 1:13; 1 Thess. 1:1; 2 Thess. 1:1; 1 Tim. 3:5, and in the plural, with reference to churches in a district.

Matthew 16:18 (New King James Version)
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Jesus said the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. Powerful words from Jesus so we as the church can know that hell cannot tear us apart.

Acts 20:28 (New King James Version)
28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God[a] which He purchased with His own blood.

The church is bought by the very blood of Christ as He died on the cross He drew people to Himself and these people make up the church.

1 Corinthians 1:2 (New King James Version)
2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

The church is called saints because they have been sanctified in Christ Jesus and the church is everyone who calls upon the name of Jesus Christ as Lord.

Galatians 1:13 (New King James Version)
13 For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it.

God because of His grace converted Paul to preach the Gospel of Christ which is what he was trying to destroy and the church was not able to be destroyed by the Judaizers.

Greeting
1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.[a]

The church is in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christians are the church of Christ and Jesus Christ is the head of the church!!!!
