Let me be 100 percent real with you. This one was hard to write. I’m a person that struggles with trusting our government in general. When it comes to the government I think more like Malcolm X than Martin Luther King. I definitely have issues with our current president.

So what is a Christian's relationship to the government supposed to be? Well, I'm glad you asked. The answer is found in His Word. 

Yahweh expects us to do what is right while being a citizen on this earth. He expects us to set an example. Like I said, this is tough to write.  Don’t be mad at anything I say. I did not make this up. It’s all in the scripture.

10 Duties Of Citizens According To The Bible

1. Be subject to civil government (Romans 13:1; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-17)
2. Be afraid to disobey civil rulers (Romans 13:3; Proverbs 24:21)
3. Do the good (Romans 13:4; Titus 3:1)
4. Pay taxes (Romans 13:1-7; Matthew 22:17-21)
5. Render dues to all men (Romans 13:7)
6. Honor civil rulers (Romans 13:17; Exodus 22:28; Acts 23:5; 1 Peter 2:13-17)
7. Pray for Civil rulers (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
8. Obey civil laws (Romans 13:1-7; Ezra 7:26)
9. Do not curse rulers (Ecclesiastes 10:20)
10. Work for peace (Romans 12:18)

CHRISTIANS MUST OBEY THE LAW

As Christians Yahweh demands that we obey the Government and civil authorities, no matter how they were appointed. But the government only has authority in the civil domain and not beyond that. When the laws of a city, state or federal government conflict with the words and commandments of Yahweh, Christians have a duty to say “ we ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29), If any political official or ruler claims divine rights and authority we must reject him or her. 

Now, none of this means we should accept mistreatment or speak out against our own government is wrong. The Bible is full of examples of godly men and women that spoke out against evil and sinful leaders in government.

• In Matthew 14:1-4 John The Baptist got at King Herod for taking his brothers wife
• In 2 Samuel 12:1-15 Nathan got at King David for sleeping for Bathsheba and setting up her husband to be killed.

THE GOVERNMENT IS ORDAINED BY GOD

1 Timothy 2:1-2 teaches us that we should pray for our government. Even if it’s someone you did not vote for and you don’t agree with their ways, pray for them.

There are three institutions that are ordained by Yahweh

1. The Family
2. The Church
3. The Government

These three are ordained by Yah! That means they exist because they were set up as A way for us to relate to each other and to him as God. Men and women are responsible for the work inside these institutions. All three have faithful that do A great job and all three have leaders that go against Yah’s word and to a horrible job. But we have to remember the government is ordained by Yah. That means all rulers will have to give an account to him.

Now if the government is ordained by Yah,  that means we can not resist because resistance means resisting the ordinance of Yah. Now let me make three points

1. Murder or assassination and acts of terrorism done “in the name of God”, against the government is not Godly and has nothing to do with Christ.
2. The exception that Yah allows to resisting the government is when the ruler tries to have mastery over human life. At that point, the Christian is to follow Yah, not man. We are to always follow righteousness and morality. But the morality and righteousness has to line up with the bible and not your own ideas
3. World leaders are in the hands of Yahweh. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Again, your government is ordained by Yah, so any Christian that resists will be condemned according to Romans 13:2. That means if you disobey laws just because you don’t like them or you don’t agree you will face Yahweh's judgment. Again, that is unless those laws go against God’s Word. ( 1 Pe, 2:13-14; Ezra)))] 7:26; Pr. 24: 21-22)

The Government is Ordained to promote good and suppress evil. The rules and laws our government creates show be for the good of the nation.

The point is as Christians, Yahweh set us apart to set an example. We are to live above reprove in the presence of all men. This includes being a good citizen in your city, state, and country.
