"I wrote this song to encourage myself to get out of bed in the morning," Cephas comments about his debut single New Day. "The lyrics were written to help me get out of a prolonged period of traumatic depression where at times I became suicidal," he says "God used the process of writing this song to help me heal."
The spiritual and emotional damage ensued after discovering his pastor and mentor of ten years was secretly sexually molesting and raping members of the Church. Cephas describes that the lyrics for New Day came to him while spending time alone seeking restoration, "The hook came to me out of thin air. I was feeling super grateful that day and in my encouraged state yelled out 'It's a new day!' then boom… I felt the peaceful rush of God's presence and knew I was onto something."
The song features a classic golden era vibe and sounds very uplifting right from the start. This soulful soundscape paired with Cephas's witty lyrics and catchy hook makes New Day the type of song you find yourself singing long after the music stops. The production, handled by Damu The Fudgemunk, actually comes from Damu's previous instrumental album Vignette's. New Day the single and video are set to drop on YouTube on Friday January 10, 2020.
The single/video is the first of many that will come from Cephas's long awaited debut mixtape The We Will Go Sessions. The project is set to drop in March of 2020 on GO! Records.

At the end of the day... Cephas refrained from the pressures and lures of the secular hip hop industry for a reason: because spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ is his single most important goal as an artist. At all of his shows (even when promoting) he preaches an extremely clear Gospel message and it's estimated that over the last decade thousands of young people have heard the Good News through His music ministry. The music is a blessing however it serves even a greater purpose in drawing people closer to the call God has on their lives.
