Single Life

For you single folks who are out there hopping from stage to stage, from venue to block party or whatever, especially or shall I say specifically for you lone ranger artists who travel alone. I don’t know how that solo thing works. I did it for a while and I am so uncomfortable doing it. I personally need accountability. I tend to slack off when I am by myself. I tend to let my gut hang out when no one is looking if you know what I mean.

I am pretty sure that is what Jesus sent out His disciples in groups of at least two. Let’s try on these verses for a principle way to do ministry:

“… that in the mouth of TWO OR THREE WITNESSES every Word may be established.” (Matt. 18:16).

“… In the mouth of TWO OR THREE WITNESSES shall every Word be established.” (2nd Corinthians 13:1).

“And I will GIVE POWER unto My TWO WITNESSES …” (Rev. 11:3).

“… at the mouth of TWO WITNESSESS, or at the mouth of THREE WITNESSESS, shall the matter be established.” (Deuteronomy 19:15).

“TWO [witnesses] are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two [witnesses] shall withstand him; and a threefold cord [third witnesses] is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).

“If I [Jesus] bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true [because even Jesus needed a second witness as true as He is]. There is Another that beareth [AS A SECOND] witness of Me; and I know that the witness which He witnesseth of Me is true … I [Jesus] have greater witness than that of John [the Baptist]: for THE WORKS which the Father hath given Me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of Me, that the Father hath sent Me. And the Father Himself, which hath sent Me, hath borne [AS A THIRD] witness of Me.” … “And yet [still] if I [Jesus] judge, My judgment is true: for I [Jesus] AM not alone, but I [Jesus] and the Father [God] that sent Me. It is also written in your law, that THE TESTIMONY OF TWO MEN IS TRUE. I [Jesus] am ONE that bear witness of Myself, and the Father [GOD] that sent Me beareth [AS A SECOND] witness of Me.” (John 5:31-32, 36-37 & John 8:16-18).

“Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he [John] sent TWO of his disciples.” (Matthew 11:2; Luke 7:19). “And when they drew nigh [near] unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus TWO disciples.” (Matthew 21:1; Mark 11:1; Luke 19:29). “And He [Jesus] sendeth forth TWO of His disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.” (Mark 14:13). “Again the next day after John stood, and TWO of his [John's] disciples; and looking upon Jesus as He walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! And the TWO disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.” (John 1:35-37). “And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him TWO men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.” (Acts 9:38). “And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called TWO of his household servants, and a devout soldier [A THIRD WITNESS] of them that waited on him continually; and when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.” (Acts 10:7-8).

“Against an elder [five fold minister] receive not an accusation, but before TWO or THREE witnesses.” (1st Timothy 5:19).

“He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under TWO or THREE witnesses.” (Hebrews 10:28).

Here are 19 witnesses on how important it is to go out with at least groups of TWO witnesses. No pun intended. And I know! Most of you are like, “Hey ReAsOn! Why 19 and not 20?” Well since you asked, here’s number 20.

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:18).
