Make Music Your Foundation

Singing to the Lord should be the foundation of your life. It should not be something you do when you feel like it. It should not be something you only do when others are watching. Praise and worship should be going on continually, never stopping, all the time.

You may be asking me how it is that you can function in a greater degree in praise and worship. You may say to me, “You know I’m battling with being able to sense the Spirit. How do I know when to war? How do I know when to praise? How do I know when to worship?”

I want to give you a key Scripture here. Ephesians & Colossians.

I would like you to show you something that many have not seen concerning the “Spirit and Truth” of worship. Paul talks about being full of the Word [truth] to one church and being full of the Spirit to another church. But I want you to see something similar about these two verses that most probably have never considered nor have I heard taught anywhere.

Observe Paul’s statement to the Ephesians:

“Wherefore be ye [all of the body of Christ] not unwise [Gk: 'Properly mindless, i.e. stupid, (implication) ignorant, (specifically) egotistic, (practically) rash, or (morally) unbelieving:--fool, foolish, unwise'], but UNDERSTANDING what the will [Gk: 'purpose'] of the Lord IS. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT; speaking TO YOURSELVES in PSALMS and HYMNS and SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING and making melody IN YOUR HEARTS TO THE LORD [Jesus Christ]; GIVING THANKS always for all things unto GOD AND THE FATHER IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS Christ; submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” (Ephesians 5:17-21).

That word “filled” in this verse means, “To make replete, i.e. (literally) to cram (a net), level up (a hollow), or (figuratively) to furnish (or imbue, diffuse, influence), satisfy, execute (an office), finish (a period or task), verify (or coincide with a prediction), etc:–accomplish, × after, (be) complete, end, expire, fill (up), fulfill, (be, make) full (come), fully preach, perfect, supply.”

Now notice what Paul tells the Colossians:

“And ABOVE ALL THESE THINGS put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in ONE body; and be ye [ALL of you] thankful. Let the WORD OF CHRIST DWELL IN YOU RICHLY in all [clear, higher, spiritual] wisdom; TEACHING AND ADMONISHING ONE ANOTHER in PSALMS and HYMNS and SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING with grace IN YOUR HEARTS TO THE LORD [Jesus Christ]. And whatsoever ye [ALL of you] do in word or deed, do all IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, GIVING THANKS to GOD AND THE FATHER by Him [Christ].” (Colossians 3:14-17).

The word “richly” in this verse means, “Copiously (which means ‘yielding or containing plenty; affording ample supply; large in quantity; abundant; abounding in matter, thoughts, or words’):–abundantly, richly.”

I know most of you are like, “What does this have to do with worshipping in Spirit and Truth?”

Everything! If you read AND CONNECT both verses it is basically saying, “Be FILLED with the Word [truth] as MUCH AS you are FILLED with the Spirit.”

Or “Be FILLED with the Spirit as MUCH AS you are FILLED with the Word [truth].”

I am going to take this a step further and help you out a bit. Are you ready? Here it goes!

YOU CAN ONLY BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT AS MUCH AS YOU ARE FILLED WITH THE WORD AND VICE VERSA!
