Christian rapper Lecrae has been confirmed to appear on the upcoming BET Hip Hop Awards which is set to air Tuesday, October 11, 2011. The award show, hosted by Mike Epps will feature its infamous Cypha (a round robin freestyle exhibition featuring artists representing various geographic locations, styles and persona) with Lecrae set to join the likes of Estelle, Saprano and Nitty Scott.

Simply said, this great exposure for Christian Hip Hop as well as Christians in general. While some may argue that Christians don’t have a place in secular events and environments such as these, in reality this is exactly the place that many are called to but are afraid to share the gospel. Compound that with the fact that Christian Hip Hop is a niche genre that has grown in exposure to the point that clearly even channels such as BET cannot deny its place in the larger Hip Hop arena, providing artist such as Lecrae a platform to not only showcase their obvious God-given talent but also their passion to use it to witness on a global scale.

This is also in adition to Lecrae’s recent appearance on the hit show Sunday Best, hosted by Kirk Franklin. Joined by Andy Mineo to perform the hit “Background” from his album Rehab, Lecrae helped usher in the Spirit for the season four finale of the contest show that crowned singer Amber Bullock its winner. Again, another opportunity for Christian Hip Hop share the message and Christians as a whole to express their diversity.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on any other news and changes that arise as we inch closer to the show date.

Lecrae is currently signed to Reach Records (http://www.reachrecords.com) and lives with his wife and children in Atlanta, GA where they serve as worship leaders at Bluprint Church.
