The scientists compared to another group who live in Italy young people from a rural village in Africa and find a dramatic difference. African children have had fewer bacteria linked to obesity and more fatty acids that protect against inflammation.
The diet of African children was similar to that of people living in the modern Western world thousands of years ago. Of Italian children, only those who were still breastfeeding harbored bacteria like African children. the trillions of microbes living in your gut helps to digest food, protect against disease-causing bugs and limit inflammation.
