What the science about the your name?
I love my culture (Hip-Hop)...but I'm very fed up with the overbearing focus on pride. In my opinion, unrighteous pride kills any culture because it focuses on self, and not Community...and it sometimes seems that Hip-Hop has one of the highest levels of pride. everyone wants to battle to be 'the best'. so I thought about it a lot...and I wanted to take a name that represented the opposite of pride....HUMILITY. it didn't take long until I latched onto the name 'dirt' (low to the ground/down to earth/humbled).
What motivated you to get into this industry?
Gods guiding Spirit.
What was your first single/recording?
It was actually 'Chant'....that song was put on a 'Rescue Records' demo tape back in 94-95.
What was your favorite single/recording you did?
Thats actually hard to answer...REAL hard! I have only 1 song that came out EXACTLY as I heard it in my head as I formulated it (props go to SirRoc-Sackcloth Fashions) and that was 'Evilution'. but my favorite song on the older 'PLAGUE' album was 'a Chapter a Day'....on the album 'A War to Restore' my favorite is 'Blunted Edge' and 'Christ'.
What should we expect from you in the future?
I plan to better myself by seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
What instruments do you use?
My voice...microphones....my 'stage presence'...and my discerning heart.
How would you classify your style as an artist?
Its definitely more of a 'thought provoking' style of Hip-Hop. But I definitely made sure (on the new album) that I had a little more 'fun' with some of the songs. I didn't want it to be as 'moody' as I felt the first album was...but I am a naturally 'moody' and 'deep minded' MC...so that’s still there too.
What artist(s) have you not worked with, but would like to?
I love 'Cross Movements' ministry. I have barely even been able to speak with any of them...but I would definitely love to hook up and build a relationship with them, also...if Trent Reznor ever started loving on God...I've always thought his 'studio techniques' were awesome (I guess he'd have to start loving on Hip-Hop too).
Growing up, who do you think was a few of your biggest musical influences?
as a little youth...I ALWAYS loved Rakim. I bumped alotta Public Enemy, Run DMC, KRS...I've always proffered 'Eastcoast' flavored Hip-Hop.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I plan to better myself by seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
What do you feel is the toughest part of the music industry?
Watching God's infallible message getting mixed (more and more) with the worlds fallible messages...and Seeing 'no-talent' performers steal the stage from truly gifted artists.
What would the ultimate reward for you be?
To hear God say,' Well done good and faithful servant...'
What message are you trying to get across to fans?
My only goal is to be sincere and honest w/ anyone who digs my music. That’s why I think alotta people consider me on the 'deeper' side of the MC spectrum. Because I'm willing to open up the positive and negative parts of my life as I try my best to establish a relationship with God.

Do your friends and look at you differently now?
Naw....I never play that 'rockstar' roll on any one.
If someone were to look in your CD player or tape player right now what would be in it?
I been checking out Ambassodor's new album....I love Zao's newest album....I been studying Mos Def's newest album...and 'Sytem of a Down's' new one.....and I just got Spoken's newest album yesterday.
Personally what does hiphop mean to you?
Hip-Hop is just another music culture that was created to bring glory to God...I think it's up to those involved in Hip-Hop (as well as any other music culture) to make sure that that is being done.
Who do you feel is your biggest influence and why?
It might sound cheesy but music has always been the thing that keeps me motivated. Most importantly, towards God...music has always been the gift that God gave me to express how I feel, allowing me to explore myself, allowing me to add those things that would be beneficial to my walk with God...or subtract those things that would hinder my walk with God.
How do you feel your music will effect its listeners?
my only hope is that people can see God working in my life and draw examples from that.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
It would be nice if we knew how to fly...it just seems like those birds see the most awesome views from up there! :)
What would you like to say to all the new artists in the game?
Good luck...especially if you have an honest heart...and sincere, original talent.
