Circle of Influence – The Acts 1:8 Principle

Let me start off this section with some solid foundational principles of the House Church before we look at this principle in the life of David. And then I will in the end tie it all together into hip-hop church, Christian record label, and fellowship off a music ministry.

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all THE HOUSE where they were sitting” (Acts 2:1-2).

“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and [apostolic] fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together and had all things common and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing DAILY with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord ADDED to the church DAILY [3000 in one day, Ver. 41] such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:42-47).

“And DAILY in the temple, AND IN EVERY HOUSE, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” (Acts 5:42).

I capitalized these words because there seems to be a difference between what the early Church did and what the Church today seems to be doing.

Even when Saul (Paul) was persecuting the early church they were in houses:

“As for Saul, he made havoc of the CHURCH, ENTERING INTO EVERY HOUSE, and haling men and women committed them to prison.” (Acts 8:3).

And if it can’t get more plain then that, these verses below show that they did have churches more in houses then in the temple or even in the synagogue system of the Old Covenant.

“Likewise greet the CHURCH that is in their HOUSE. Salute my well beloved Epenetus, who is the first fruits of Achaia unto Christ. (Rom. 16:5).

“The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the CHURCH that is in their HOUSE (1 Cor. 16:19).

“Salute the brethren [brothers and sisters of Christ] which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the CHURCH which is in his HOUSE.” (Col. 4:15).

“Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow laborer, and to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the CHURCH in your HOUSE.” (Philemon 1:1-2).

Now let’s get to King David. He had what? He had the 30 (actually 37) mighty men around him. They were his house-to-house group. They were more than two or three. They were like Jesus and the 70 men that He sent out to represent Him in groups of twos.
