It's Sunday morning and we get out of bed thinking, another day to get through, I need a word from the Lord to tell me what to do or how to get through this day. So we turn on the Television or Radio and watch or listen to some preacher that spouts off words of wisdom but fails to mention a single word from the Scriptures (Bible). We try to follow that advise, but we seem to have no success in all the advise given as failure sets in. We then begin to doubt that there really is a God that cares.

What we fail to realize is the power behind living is not the words of wisdom from good intentioned men or women. The power of living comes from the truth of the words of God. When good intentioned speaker try to give their wisdom outside the truth of the word of God, then what we have is someones opinion to how things ought to be, but has no power to make that opinion happen or ring true. Jesus said in John 17:17: "Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth." The only way to be successful in our relationships and adventures is to live out the truth of the word of God in obedience. No obedience to God's truth - no success. Remember the advise given us in Joshua 1:8? "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." (NASB) The principle being taught here is this: By being obedient to the words of God we will be successful in life and that does not always mean obtaining possessions.

To summarize this brief commentary lets read what Jesus had to say concerning these concepts.

5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, "Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with impure hands?" 6 And He said to them, "Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,

'This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me.
7 'But in vain do they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.'

8 "Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." 9 He was also saying to them, "You nicely set aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. 10 "For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death'; 11 but you say,' If a man says to his father or his mother, anything of mine you might have been helped by is Corban (that is to say, given to God),' 12 you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; 13 thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that." (Mark 7:5-13; NASB)

Are we listening to the wisdom of God though the teaching and preaching of the words of God? Or are we listening to the words and wisdom of men and women and the Scriptures that can really help us sits in many of our homes collecting dust and going unnoticed? Remember: "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3:16-17; NASB)

Something to think about.
